Who We Are

The Educational Frontier Trust (TEFT) is a UK-based charity funding and supporting Kisima School in Kenya, a residential secondary school with 120 students - 60 boys and 60 girls.

The partnership between TEFT and Kisima School was formed on a bus journey through South London in 2001 and ever since, we have been working to help make Kisima School a reality.

TEFT can only support Kisima School due to the generosity of people like you: from online donations, our sponsorship programme, fundraising events and major donations.

Our Approach

Providing Opportunity and Excellence: From funds raised, Kisima School educates 120 students from low-income and marginalised backgrounds each year. Offering top-tier education which has resulted in the school ranking among Kenya's top twenty secondary schools.

Being Diverse and Welcoming: Kisima School has quickly become one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Kenya, ensuring an equal number of boys and girls and welcomes all faiths despite its Christian roots.

Building Strong Relationships: Kisima School thrives off strong bonds between staff, students, and long-term UK donors who often visit the school, with many Kisima School alumni now giving back financially.

Driving Transformation: Kisima School is transforming lives every day by fostering cultural understanding, community service, and self-confidence among its students.

Our Finances

For Every £1 You Donate To TEFT...

An incredible 97p goes directly to changing lives through education at Kisima School. We maximise every penny, driven by passionate volunteers who work closely with Kisima School. Your contribution directly empowers education and changes futures. Together, we make an extraordinary impact!

Information about TEFT's financial and compliance history can be found on the Charity Commission website here. Our charity number is 1087070.

How Kisima School Spends Your Money

Kisima School's primary expense is staff salaries for 25 employees. Some food is grown on school grounds but other food and household items account for 24% of the budget. 16% covers maintenance, utilities, medical care, and supplies.

The annual running cost of Kisima School is around £175,000.

Capital and building projects are funded separately through dedicated fundraising: with support from one of TEFT's major donors, a new classroom block and ICT centre at Kisima School was possible.

Your support makes these vital investments possible!

Where TEFT's Funds Come From

The money that supports Kisima School mainly comes from regular donations from our sponsorship and Kisima Friends programmes. This helps fund the school's annual running costs and we are grateful to all those who choose to support TEFT financially.

But additional funds are still needed each year which is mainly raised through fundraising events and one-off donations.

Our long-term vision to keep Kisima School operating is for TEFT to:

  • Increase the number of those who become regular givers, to help sustain our mission with monthly income.
  • Increase monies raised from gift aid as every little helps.
  • Maintain charity reserves equivalent to one term's running costs to protect the school should there be an unexpected drop in income or an emergency.

Funds to Kisima School are transferred on a termly basis.

Your support is vital for sustaining this mission!
