Trustees

Ben Grierson-Hill

Ben has worked in the international development sector for 20 years primarily focused on strategy, advocacy and public engagement. He currently works for WaterAid and has previously worked for World Vision International, Macmillan Cancer Support and the ONE Campaign. He became a trustee for TEFT in 2018 and currently oversees new audience engagement.

Trevor Mwiu

Trevor Mwiu currently works for World Vision as the Director of Global Compliance. He has previously held roles in Programme Management and Finance. He says he was inspired by the commitment and impact he saw in his home country of Kenya when he was able to visit Kisima in November 2021. Trevor joined TEFT as a trustee in December 2021.

John Newcomb

John Newcomb is the CEO of the Builders Merchants Federation, which represents a significant part of the nation's economy, with 1000 members who together have combined sales of over £50.2bn and employ over 202,815 people. In post since 2012, John has overseen exceptional member growth to secure the BMF's position as a leading voice in UK industry. John leads for partnership and fundraising at TEFT and has been engaged in many different fundraising events for the Kisima School over the past few years.

Sarah Pickwick

Sarah has worked in several charities including Malaria Consortium and Tearfund and currently works for World Vision UK as their Senior Conflict Adviser. She has been a supporter of Kisima School for many years, visiting on two occasions. She became a trustee of TEFT in 2014.

Jonathan Taylor

Jonathan has worked for 25 years in a combined finance and resources role for a number of charities. He takes a particular interest in the financial and regulatory aspects of TEFT's activities. He has visited Kisima School twice and is one of the founding trustees of TEFT.

Richard Walton (Chair)

Richard is a former senior police leader and now Director of Counter Terrorism Global Ltd. He is a founding trustee of TEFT and Chair since 2015. He has travelled to Kenya on many occasions in support of TEFT and produced the film 'The story of Kisima'. He has organised several UK-based fundraising events including the 'London to Paris cycle ride' in 2009.

Nigel Buxton (Treasurer)

Nigel has recently joined the board as Treasurer following a 30+ year career in commercial property investment and banking, most recently with Deutsche Pfandbrief Bank, a major European lending institution where he leads the international underwriting team. He is currently involved in a West London Food Charity and also sits on the board of the Association of Property Lenders in the UK.

David Munns

David was one of the founding trustees of TEFT, having met David Kariuki, the Director of Kisima School, on the 133 bus near London Bridge when David was a young teacher studying theology in London.

David works as a headhunter in London. He was formerly the CFO of the Financial Times Publishing Group and of an international hotel business. He read Law at UCL, has an MBA from the University of Chicago and is a chartered accountant. He is a former non-executive director of Colliers CRE and is Churchwarden of St Michael's Chester Square.

Core Team

Patrick Turnbull, Patron

Patrick has been a keen supporter of Kisima for many years and takes part in most fundraising events. Patrick visited the School in 2014 with his son, also seeing students at home, experiencing how their families manage on the little they have. Patrick is the Group Property Director for TKMaxx.

David Kariuki, Kisima Director

Catherine Maina, Sponsorship Coordinator

Catherine moved from the UK to Kenya in 2004 and has been Kisima's sponsorship coordinator since the school began. She works closely with TEFT and is Kisima's day-to-day link with all those who support the school. Her responsibilities include sharing updates from Kisima, facilitating communication between students and sponsors, answering queries from donors and coordinating visits to the school by volunteers and other supporters.
