Maths is very important! That was the message given to a group of students who attended an inter-schools Maths contest at Moi High School Kabarak, about two hours' drive from Kisima.

Thirty of them took part in a written exam, with separate papers for Form Two, Form Three and Form Four. Our best performers were the Form Threes, who took third position out of fifty four teams, with one of the boys having the second highest individual score out of nearly 550 entrants.

Other students put their skills to the test in oral questions, where their speed and accuracy won them many prizes such as biscuits, books and pens.

The day also included performances of songs, poems and other items on mathematical themes, and time to share experiences and ideas with students from other schools.

Staff members gave speeches emphasising that a good performance in Maths opens doors to many university courses and careers. Our students came back to school having been inspired to redouble their efforts in the subject!
